In each temple/home they built stone steps down to the bank of the Nile
as the Nile flooded so the water rose up the stairs. The higher the water
in each establishment the more taxes they paid. A tax inspector would
visit at flooding time to assess how much would be paid.
If you take a boat along the Nile you can see beyond the greenery and
into the desert therefore the Nile water helped grow the crops to feed
many families. Not only to water the crops but the animals too
The Nile was used as the main waterway for transportation
for building materials but also for people, crops and fishing.
The Nile was not just a river but a way of life.
Hope this has helped somewhat
