Thebes is not known for its wealth of natural resources. There are stone quarries, lead & phosphate deposits but that is basically it. Ancient egypt was heavily dependent on trade for the acquistion of natural resources and that is why it was important to build an empire.

Oil has been located in the Komombo basin east of Luxor. Luxor is the modern name for Greek Thebes,known to the ancient Egyptians as Waset).
There are tapped and untapped subterranean wells of oil throughout the Middle East and in various other land and sea locations around the world.
