*are people in egypt nice to foreigners? are they nicer to ppl from their own religion or culture?
Generally yes, but beware of con artists that will take advantage of you simply because you are foreign. It will happen left and right and it WILL get annoying. I don't think they're necessarily nicer to people from their own culture/religion, they usually look up to money, so if you have it they'll be totally up your ***.
*is it safe their for foreigners?
Pretty much.
*i heard some of the men there are perverts?
Yea, they are. Don't let anyone tell you there are perverted men everywhere, as a foreigner I can tell you that a larger degree of Egyptian men here are the biggest pervs I've ever seen. You will get verbally harassed on a day to day basis, some might reach out to try to grab you. Don't expect the locals to intervene, they look the other way and will tell you it's your fault and the way you dressed, etc. The majority of these perverts will assume you're a slut simply because you're foreign, you're a walking sex object, get used to it.
*is the young crowd westernized at all?
Yes, a majority of them.
*how well do people speak English there
You will find a surprising number that speak English, but not very well. Enough to communicate SOMETIMES but you will have to expect to pick up some Arabic to survive unless you plan on being a recluse or have everything done for you.
*would an egyptian guy date a foreigner?
LOL would he ever! He'll date you so fast you won't know what hit you. Although, beware, the majority are going to date you either for sex or for the chance of a marriage and getting a visa out of their crappy lives. I've seen highly educated and cultured women get taken for a ride, beware!!
*is living there expensive?
Generally no, depending on your income. However, if you let everyone take money from you left and right (and they will try), you will find your pockets emptying fast. After all, you're the rich foreigner and can afford it. I'm guessing you're American, which makes you by birth filthy rich in many of their eyes and so you can afford to be taken for a ride every now and then
*are there a lot of foreign students doing this stuff there?
There are a good amount. You won't be alone.
*are people there liberal? conservative?
Depends on the circles you move within.
anything else that should be known
I know my answered sounded harsh but I'm not here to sugar coat things for you. I'm a North American living in Egypt for many years now, so I'm trying to be straight with you. There are wonderful things about Egypt and there are WONDERFUL people here. It will simply take time for you to filter out who they are and you'll have to crawl through a lot of crap to figure that out. Everything here is pretty much backwards from how it is back home so never try to judge a person or situation according to what you are used to.
