Im a foreigner living here, so I can answer you best.

1. People here will try to rip you off when they find out you are a foreigner, because they know you have more money. And there is discrimination if you are not Muslim

2. Well it depends on the area you live in, whether it is safe or not.

3. I wouldnt know

4. No not at all, they are all raised to be close minded and ignorant.

5. Not well at all, I can honestly tell you that as a foreigner here i RARELY meet someone who speaks english, and when they do, they speak it very very poorly. You have to know arabic, or you need to be with someone who knows arabic, or you wont be able to get anything at all.

6. If an Egyptian guy dates you it will be for your passport, not because he loves you

7. In Egypt you will find some things much cheaper, and some things much more expensive. Internet for example, Im paying twice the amount I paid in Canada for a SLOWER internet speed.

8. A few, in my grade in the university there are maybe 70 students and maybe 7 or 8 of us are foreigners.

9. VERY conservative, and close minded, do not even think for a minute that in Egypt you have rights or freedoms.

*how well do people speak English there

Most not good

*would an egyptian guy date a foreigner?

Sure..

*is living there expensive?

No, much cheaper than Europe or USA

*are there a lot of foreign students doing this stuff there?

*are people in egypt nice to foreigners? are they nicer to ppl from their own religion or culture?

Generally yes, but beware of con artists that will take advantage of you simply because you are foreign. It will happen left and right and it WILL get annoying. I don't think they're necessarily nicer to people from their own culture/religion, they usually look up to money, so if you have it they'll be totally up your ***.

*is it safe their for foreigners?

Pretty much.

*i heard some of the men there are perverts?

Yea, they are. Don't let anyone tell you there are perverted men everywhere, as a foreigner I can tell you that a larger degree of Egyptian men here are the biggest pervs I've ever seen. You will get verbally harassed on a day to day basis, some might reach out to try to grab you. Don't expect the locals to intervene, they look the other way and will tell you it's your fault and the way you dressed, etc. The majority of these perverts will assume you're a slut simply because you're foreign, you're a walking sex object, get used to it.

*is the young crowd westernized at all?

Yes, a majority of them.

*how well do people speak English there

You will find a surprising number that speak English, but not very well. Enough to communicate SOMETIMES but you will have to expect to pick up some Arabic to survive unless you plan on being a recluse or have everything done for you.

*would an egyptian guy date a foreigner?

LOL would he ever! He'll date you so fast you won't know what hit you. Although, beware, the majority are going to date you either for sex or for the chance of a marriage and getting a visa out of their crappy lives. I've seen highly educated and cultured women get taken for a ride, beware!!

*is living there expensive?

Generally no, depending on your income. However, if you let everyone take money from you left and right (and they will try), you will find your pockets emptying fast. After all, you're the rich foreigner and can afford it. I'm guessing you're American, which makes you by birth filthy rich in many of their eyes and so you can afford to be taken for a ride every now and then

*are there a lot of foreign students doing this stuff there?

There are a good amount. You won't be alone.

*are people there liberal? conservative?

Depends on the circles you move within.

anything else that should be known

I know my answered sounded harsh but I'm not here to sugar coat things for you. I'm a North American living in Egypt for many years now, so I'm trying to be straight with you. There are wonderful things about Egypt and there are WONDERFUL people here. It will simply take time for you to filter out who they are and you'll have to crawl through a lot of crap to figure that out. Everything here is pretty much backwards from how it is back home so never try to judge a person or situation according to what you are used to.

I will be VERY HONEST WITH U:

1.Yes Egyptians are in general very nice to ALL people no matter what their religion or country.

2.It's safe for foreigners, but i advise u (since u r a girl) to avoid wearing short cloths and don't show much skin, it will be safe to wear decent clothes (not tight). Since most girls here wear hijab, so, if u wore sth distracting guys might annoy u.(better not to wear sth shorter than a pants, and sth not shorter than a long sleeve)

3.They won't be as long as u wear decent cloths and behaved in a decent way.

4.yeah, there are but in the (not poor areas)

5.UHHHHHhhh, they do speak English, but the point is "Will u understand their English?" lol , i think u should have an Egyptian companion u trust for help.

6.Yes, they do, why not ?!(oh but plz BEWARE some of them might ask u at once for marriage ONLY FOR GETTING THE USA VISA,and he might divorce u after wards, So plz BEWARE) (i am telling u this as a sister)

7.according to westerns its not expensive, in fact, Cheap.

8.i think there r.

9.some and some.

I REALLY advise u , to not come alone , u should come with a brother or a father, or if u couldn't, maybe if u have a friend in Egypt to help u?? it won't be easy for u to handle living in a country which is very different from yours at first or alone.

Don't do my mistake and go to the AUC!

i took the decision of becoming part of the " AUC community" last sept.

i started on sept 5th..... by october 18th i packed my bags and headed back home. ( now i have to wait till January to start college here).

it was such a mess...

the transportation is a mess...

the egyptians that work in the offices gave me such a hard time they even made me cry. i paid 20 thousand bucks out of my own pockets..and they went down the drain!!

but i gotta admit, they have some decent professors there.

i was really pissed off by some students there, some are very disrespectful.

i was taking a class located in a building that's is called the SSE, that is also where the 'GUCCI CORNER" is located. during the class some **** walks in the class giggles and walks out the other door. she repeated this twice! i bet she was playing truth or dare with her gay friends.

but on the other hand i met very decent people and good friends! i am not trying to be stereotypical i am just telling you what i experienced.

if you want to learn more about egypt just vist for a month or so.

Cairo is one of the world's good megacities. As beautiful since it is mad, and as abundant with ancient finery since it is half dilapidated, Cairo is commonly a town that travellers love and hate in similar steps so find out where band you will soon be with assistance from that place hotelbye . In Cairo you will find, beyond the current hubbub, a history that spans centuries. High in vigour, Cairo is where you probably get a feel for Egyptian road life and number visit to Egypt is complete with no stay static in the city Arabs contact Umm al-Dunya (The Mother of the World). The definitely staggering collection of antiquities shown in Cairo's Egyptian Museum makes it among the world's good museums and definitely a area for everyone's to visit.

my advise is to be inside the university and don't deal with a lot of people outside there.

The university is a respectable place where you can find enough friends and activities.

try to have limited university friends to avoid problems that could be created as some tricks could done outside the campus; life is not easy in Egypt and people are eager and for some there is no limits or ethics..be prudent.
